I wanted to share just how serious I am about getting this parrot rescue up an running an caring for the birds that are coming in. I'm almost finished with my first semester of veterinary technician school an I'm also taking classes with the American Federation of Aviculture specializing in exotic birds. I'm currently holding a 86.5% grad average an a 3.3 GPA. . I'm very proud of that an I'm going to make this happen. I'm going to admit I'm running into some issues being on disability for a spine injury trying to get a loan to purchase the property so I can start construction but let me tell you I'm not going to let this stop me I am very determined to make this happen. So I hope everyone will show support for our cause because we have a second phase to this project once the parrot rescue is open to the public. We are piloting a program to have the birds recognized as service animals for the treatment of PTSD in first responders, police, veterans and battered woman. We have 2 counselors already willing to volunteer their time to help with this. Myself I come from a battered woman situation an still deal with issues from it but my birds have helped me so much an helping at another sanctuary brought so much peace that we want to see if we can help others going thru this also

We are asking for some help getting some grant writing done so we can get some funding coming in to help with the costs of the veterinary bills coming in for the new birds we're taking in. We just took in Bama that had some issues the vet has to help us with and he's probably gonna need more vet care and I have an appt for Rio to.

I want y'all to meet Bama. He is a green winged macaw that got rescued from an abusive home by some awesome people but they weren't sure how to handle him so they entrusted us with his care. I'm very thankful to them for trusting us. He took to me right away before we even left their home Wednesday nite and really has come out of his shell since then. I'm sharing some pics of him and a video I took. He's such a sweetheart for what he's been thru. He pulled his tail and wing feathers out so hopefully he won't feel stressed out anymore or scared and let them come back.

Going to pick up a green winged macaw tonight. The awesome couple we met at the Renaissance faire asked if we could take him. We thank them for entrusting us with him. He's pulled allot of feathers and they rescued him from an abusive situation so hopefully he'll feel safe and we can make him feel safer and help him. His name is Bama.

I'm so happy to announce that Rio is adjusting great to his new environment and he's already starting to get new feathers coming in where he had plucked then all out before. He has become my buddy and he's on my shoulder all the time. He loves the voice and dances to the music. I love these birds. If we can make them as happy as they make us all will be good.

Hey everyone meet Rio. We want to thank William for entrusting us with him. He's or new addition to the rescue and no he's not up for adoption. He's become my little buddy. He squeezed himself out of the cage on the way home from picking him up in Birmingham AL. He ran up my arm and snuggled up against my neck the rest of the way home. Everytime I go past his cage he says hey to get my attention. He is the most social bird and so loving. Great job William for how you raised him. I'm sorry you couldn't keep him but he'll always be here for you to come visit.

We had a beautiful weekend at the Renaissance faire in Robertsdale this past weekend. We brought Paco, Elly May and Birdie for everyone to meet. They loved the attention and we met a lot of great people. We were able to explain what we're about and our mission for Styx River Parrot Rescue. We want to thank everyone that made donations towards our program. . We will be there again this coming weekend so please come out and meet us and our birds. Come find out what our mission is. We also want to say a big thank you to Sadie from the GCRF.us for having us this past weekend and next. She's awesome.
